Nguyễn Ngọc Trường Sơn


Nguyễn Ngọc Trường Sơn (born Rach Soi, Rach Gia, Kien Giang Province, Vietnam; February 23, 1990) is a leading Vietnamese chess player. Nguyen is Vietnam's 2nd ranked player (August 2012). In 2000, he won the world under-10 championship. In 2002, he was awarded the International Master title. In 2004, he became a Grandmaster at the age of 14 years, 10 months. In 2004, he was voted as athlete of the year in Vietnam. In 2008, he was runner up to Ivan Saric in the World U19 Youth Championship held in Vietnam. In 2010, he was =1st in the Biel Chess Festival (2010), but came second on tiebreak to Fabiano Caruana. He qualified through the 2011 Asian Continental Championship to play in the World Cup (2011), and defeated Chinese GM Li Chao in the first round. In the second round he lost in the 10 minute rapid-game tiebreaker to the eventual winner, Russian GM Peter Svidler.
